About Maria Chrysostomou Reflexology

Services

The treatments I offer:

  • Reflexology  -  the practise of applying pressure to with fingers and thumbs to reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond to different areas of the body.  Apply pressure to these reflexes creates a feeling of relaxation, vitality and well-being.  When the body is in a relaxed state it is more able to access its own natural healing abilities and moves towards creating a balanced state.
  • VRT (Vertical Reflex Therapy)  -  this is incorportated into the beginning and sometimes end of a traditional reflexology treatment.  It is a form of reflexology where the hands and/or feet are worked in a standing, weight-bearing positon for short periods of time.  This provides a more intensive level of treatment.
  • Reiki  -  this is a safe, gentle, non-invasive hands on healing system that uses the energy that is all around us to help a person achieve harmony in mind, body and spirit, without using manipulation or massage.
  • Thai Foot Massage  -  this is a massage of the lower legs and feet that involves hands-on stretching and massage to open the Sen (energy) lines, which are from the Ayurvedic tradition.  A stick is also used to stimulate reflex points on the feet.  This is a deeply relaxing treatment that can leave you feeling centred and grounded.

I work from Holistics Complementary Health Centre, based in the centre of Wellington, Somerset, with easy access to pay & display parking.  The therapy room is calm and peaceful, and very welcoming; which adds to the overall therapeutic effect of giving and receiving treatments.

About me

I have been working as a complementary therapist since 2002.  My initial training was in Reiki levels I & II.  I then went on to qualify in Reflexology, VRT (Vertical Reflex Therapy) and Thai Foot Massage.  My reflexology training was with The Holistic School of Reflexology in Marlborough, Wiltshire, which was accreddited by the Association of Reflexologists (AoR).  VRT training was with the wonderful Lynne Booth in Bristol.  In Thai Foot Massage I trained with Simon Gall of the London School of Thai Massage, in Glastonbury.  And my reiki training was with Jenny Duffin of the Usui lineage in Bristol.

I am a full member of the AoR and the VRT Network.  Membership to professional organisations ensures that I work to a strict Code of Practice and Ethics, keeps me up to date with any advancements in the fields I practice, and offers me a valuable support network.

Before embarking on a full-time career as a health practitioner, I worked for the Association of Reflexologists; this gave me a unique opportunity to meet with some well respected professional in the field.  It also gave me a knowledgeable understanding of the reflexology world and the practice of helping people achieve and maintain their well-being goals.  It was an invaluable experience and integral to my practice today.

Prior to training in complementary therapies I worked in the fitness industry and gained a certificate in Nutrition and Health, this is where my interest in health and well-being first started.

I hold a current First Aid at Work Certificate.
