About Shelley Sheridan

Modern reflexology is based on the principle that there are energy zones running throughout the body.  Reflex areas on the feet and hands (and ears) relate to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.  Congestion or tension in any part of the feet is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.  By manipulating specific points on the feet the tension and congestion can be released, improving the flow of energy, and thus stimulating the body to heal itself and restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium.  Reflexology is a holistic therapy which works on the feet to help heal the whole person, not just the prevailing symptoms.  It can be effective in alleviating a wide range of complaints including:
• stress-related conditions
• sleep disorders
• digestive disorders
• hormonal imbalances
• infertility
• pregnancy-related conditions (including preparation for labour)
• migraine
• back pain
• arthritis
• weak immune system
It is completely non-invasive and is suitable for all ages, including young babies.  The initial appointment involves a detailed half hour consultation followed by one hour’s treatment.  Subsequent treatments are of one hour’s duration.  After completing a course of reflexology for a specific condition, many individuals find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain their health and well-being.

Over the years I have developed a specialism for sub-fertility and maternity reflexology.  Reflexology has been shown to be effective in assisting fertility, correcting hormonal imbalances and alleviating stress. With over 15 years' experience as a complementary therapist, I work with a woman or a couple holistically - using reflexology, but also looking at diet, nutrition, supplements, reducing toxicity and promoting a positive attitude through visualisation techniques, etc. - to provide the best pre-conceptual care and help in reaching an optimum state for conception.  I have first-hand experience of fertility problems and IVF and the process involved - I can therefore have confidence in knowing when it is safe to treat and when it is not safe to treat during a cycle of fertility treatment.

In addition to reflexology, I also incorporate energy healing and the use of some acupressure points into treatments, where appropriate.  My aim is to help all my clients to reach their individual health goals in a nurturing and safe environment with whatever means I have available in my "toolkit".

I trained for two years at the Oxford School of Reflexology.  I am a fully accredited and insured member of the Association of Reflexologists and have been a practising therapist since qualifying in 1998.  I have also successfully completed further training in a number of additional reflexology techniques including Advanced Reflexology Training with Anthony Porter, Vertical Reflex Therapy with Lynne Booth and Natural Fertility and Intuitive Birth with Lena Chandler.  I am also qualified to teach Baby Reflex – helping parents understand how they can use reflexology to help bond with and calm and sooth their babies.  I also have a Diploma in Indian Champissage (Indian Head Massage), a Certificate in Thermo-Auricular Therapy (Hopi Ear Candling) and I am a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner.

I am generally available for treatments on Wednesday afternoons, day-time on Thursdays and day-time on Fridays.  I also work some evenings - please telephone to discuss availability as I work at different sites on different days.  Initial appointments consist of a half hour consultation followed by a one hour treatment.  Subsequent appointments are for one hour.  Please telephone to discuss details of fees or to book an appointment.

I am based in Tring, Hertfordshire, but also work in Redbourn and St Albans.  Please telephone to discuss the most convenient place for treatments and for directions to any of the three locations.  Parking is available at all 3 sites, but free parking is limited in St Albans - please ask for advice if necessary.
